As we head into summer, and look forward to the warmer weather, we need to think about how we treat our screed. The summer months are great for drying screeds, and the warmth accelerates the hydration process thus giving faster strength gains. The downside of this is that the moisture required by the cement particles to hydrate can be lost very quickly, resulting in loss of strength, and failures of screed.
No Sun?
It doesn’t even need to be a sunny day to cause problems. Just think of drying clothes on a washing line, when you add a steady breeze they’re dry in no time. Screed needs to be protected during this early period with a curing solution in place.
